Welcome to Press the Face, a Sunday-morning talk show liveblog where you can respond to the Sunday talks with your opinions, support, refutations, or ravings. The larger goal is to provide meaningful accounts of the the shows for those who are unable to watch them, but it's also an opportunity to share our thoughts in real time as armchair spectators of the sport of political discussion.
This week I had an interesting experience speaking to legislators in the Indiana State House. Though I am hoping to write a diary exclusively about that, I can't resist sharing some general impressions here in light of the current budget battle raging in Washington. I went with a group of concerned parents to appeal to the lawmakers not to cut money from a youth education program our kids are part of. We met with a senator and a representative, both Republicans. The senator spoke not one word. The representative spoke extensively but said nothing. We left the meeting disillusioned, cynical, and angry at the lies we had heard. Expanding that to the national scene makes me feel even more discouraged, but I still believe we the common people can make a difference. I'm hanging onto that as we watch the federal budget battle play out.
