We need to pile on NBC and get the Donald off the air. Why? Because his actions are heinous and hurt America. He is a racist and will continue to make racist and offensive statements because he has nothing to lose. This compelling video by Baratunde Thurston makes this case far better than I can. If you haven't watched it - DO! We cannot allow Donald Trump to continue to pollute the airways. If we ban together, we can show NBC that choices have consequences.
Dear NBC executives:
I love NBC. I love Thirty Rock, The Biggest Loser, and The Office. I started watching The Voice this week and loved it. It is every bit as compelling and as much fun as Idol. Unfortunately, I will not be watching the next episode. I simply cannot in good conscience give my time or my money to any company that supports either through scheduling or advertising someone as racist and ignorant as Donald Trump. So, until Trump is off of NBC, I will not be watching anything on your network. And, I will be spreading the word. Through blogs, on Facebook, and in conversation I will tell everyone why, as wonderful as your programming is and as hooked on those shows as they might be, people should not be watching NBC programs.
NBC executives need to understand that Donald Trump's actions go beyond simple politics, his actions have called into question the legitimacy of all people of color and their ability to achieve their dreams in an American society which is supposed to be open to each and every one of us according to our willingness to achieve. I find Donald Trump's actions and statements over the last few weeks increasingly offensive. And, I think his foreign policy blusterings are dangerous to America and have the potential to disrupt international relationships and put people in harm's way. For those who may feel this observation as overblown as Trump's rhetoric, let me point you to the recent blusterings of Terry Jones and his despicable act of Koran burying which put American lives at risk abroad. Words and action have consequences. When you support those who spout heinous positions with programming or through advertising dollars, you are not supporting free speech, you are supporting the positions they espouse. As far as I am concerned NBC and its advertisers are just as callous, ignorant and racist as "The Donald." I will also be sending a copy of this email to all of your advertisers. If you think efforts like these don't have an impact, take a look at Glenn Beck's advertising revenue over the last year and his ratings. The audience that stands up for the rights of all Americans is far larger than those who stand up for the rights of the few. It may take some time, but eventually NBC will feel the sting of supporting Donald Trump, and that support will hurt all your programs, not just The Apprentice. Now, I will go and delete all NBC programming from my TiVo. Whether it returns is up to you.
