Light reading today, so I've put the lists up top and the diary topic in the extended. Happy reading!
A Perfect Conversation is a group for republishing diaries that:
A) Challenge the DK conventional wisdom.
B) Provide information which may lead to new ideas.
or
C) Push for action that is innovative or not just playing defense.
The point is not to agree (or disagree) with these diaries. It's about challenging ourselves to rethink our political philosophies, activities, and issue positions.

Rec List from the Eclectic Boogaloo - April 30, 2011:
This is a simple trick. Maybe you'll find a use for it.
You can add a follow link pretty much anywhere you post on Daily Kos, but there are some caveats.
- I haven't figured out how to get it working for tags, yet, but it works for groups and users.
- You need to use a separate link to unfollow. I've provided the code for both following and unfollowing.
- The link doesn't have the little heart that verifies whether you're following or not, so you have to go to your Following/People or Following/Groups pages to see if clicking the link worked.
- You will need the ID Number of the user or group in order to create a functional link.
Getting the User or Group ID Number
Getting the ID number of a user is simple. It's in top box of the left column of the user profile page. (See image.) Copy and paste it into the appropriate place in the code I've provided below.
Getting the ID number of a group is only slightly less simple. The easiest way is to right-click on an existing follow link for the group. You can find one on the group's profile page. (See image.)
Right-clicking that link will pop-up a context menu. Select "Copy Link Location." Open your text editor and paste the link there. You will see a URL that looks something like this:
http://www.dailykos.com/blog/A%20Perfect%20Conversation#?blog_id=792488
At the end of the URL are the numbers you need. In the above example, I've put them in bold. Copy those numbers and put them into the appropriate place in the code I've provided below.
Users
Note:
XXX is the ID number of the user or group.
[Link_Text] can be any text you want.
Here's the code for following a user:
<a class="type-user do-hotlist off follow ajaxON" href="#?friend_id=XXX">[Link_Text]</a>
Just copy that and replace the bolded parts with the appropriate info. So, for example, if you want to create a link to follow me (Gabriel D), with the link text "follow Gabriel D," here is the code:
<a class="type-user do-hotlist off follow ajaxON" href="#?friend_id=199239">follow Gabriel D</a>
And here's the result:
follow Gabriel D
If you aren't following me, yet, try clicking that link, then go to your Following/People page. You should now see me in your list. (Wasn't that nice of me?)
The code to unfollow a user is this:
<a class="type-user do-unHotlist on follow ajaxON" href="#?friend_id=XXX">[Link_Text]</a>
Again, replace the bolded parts with the appropriate info. So, in a purely hypothetical case, if you wanted to provide a link to unfollow me (something you'd never want to do, I'm sure), you could do something like this:
<a class="type-user do-unHotlist on follow ajaxON" href="#?friend_id=199239">unfollow Gabriel D</a>
Which would give you this link:
unfollow Gabriel D
Groups
Reminder:
XXX is the ID number of the user or group.
[Link_Text] can be any text you want.
To follow a group, use the following code:
<a class="type-blog do-hotlist off follow ajaxON" href="#?blog_id=XXX">[Link_Text]</a>
Like with users, copy and replace the bolded parts with the appropriate info. So, to make a link to follow A Perfect Conversation, you can do the following:
<a class="type-blog do-hotlist off follow ajaxON" href="#?blog_id=792488">Clicking this link allows you to follow A Perfect Conversation</a>
Which results in this:
Clicking this link allows you to follow A Perfect Conversation
To unfollow a group, use this code:
<a class="type-blog do-unHotlist on follow ajaxON" href="#?blog_id=XXX"[Link_Text]</a>
So, to unfollow A Perfect Conversastion, you could do this:
<<a class="type-blog do-unHotlist on follow ajaxON" href="#?blog_id=792488"You don't <em>really</em> want to click this link.</a>
Which results in this:
You don't really want to click this link.

It's been brought to my attention this is no longer working for comments. I'll see what I can find out.
