In a surprise announcement from the East Room of the White House tonight, President Barack Obama has announced that Osama bin Laden has been killed in a house outside of Islamabad, Pakistan.
According to sources who have spoken to various reporters, U.S. military bases around the world were told earlier today to go to a higher level of alert out of concern that bin Laden's death might generate attacks from al Qaeda or others who see him as a hero, and now a martyr.
In September 2006, George W. Bush said: "This thing about . . . let's put 100,000 of our special forces stomping through Pakistan in order to find bin Laden is just simply not the strategy that will work. ... I truly am not that concerned about him.”
