Ohhh republicans... bless their hearts.  The Oklahoma Legislature is working on a bill that will be stronger than AZ's 1070 immigration law.  If that isn't enough they're also working on English as the Official Language and I'm sure there are a lot of racist things around the corner.

Last week the Oklahoma Truth Council reported about a press conference by Republican State Treasurer Ken Miller and his Cinco de Mayo fundraiser.  Only ... now I've obtained the official documents.

Just wait until you see the "sponsor levels."

The OK Truth Council says

"While the Oklahoma legislature continues to take heat for advancing legislation last year to make English the official language of Oklahoma, Miller seems to be flaunting a more multicultural flare and embracing the many wealthy Mexican Republican donors that our state has been known for (if you can name twenty there is a prize). It is important to note that Miller in preparation for his Statewide campaign voted to send “English as the Official Language” to a vote of the people.

Now Miller is free to have any fundraiser he chooses, and he is not the first to reach out to our Mexican minority. Many has been the year that members of the Council have shared rides leaving Mary Fallin’s legendary Cinco De Mayo parties in Bricktown (most recently, her Gubernatorial fundraiser billed as “Margaritas & Mary.”

In the age of social consciousness for the effects of alcohol, and a trend in Republican campaigns to preach personal responsibility, it is refreshing to remember that some politicians are still willing to spike the punch!"

If you can't read the letter here... allow me.  This is where it becomes art.

"While I have focused diligently on my work for the last three months, I now must retire the campaign debt from the last year's positive campaign.  A tough and intense primary followed by a general election left us with $66,000 debt.  Ay, caramba!  I'd be honored to have you assist in sponsoring this fundraiser while also having a little fun!

Mark your calendar for "Cinco de Mayo in the Loft," a party to retire our debt and celebrate our lofty ideas for raising Oklahoma to an even higher level.

This outdoor fiesta will become an annual event you won't want to miss, with great live entertainment, margaritas, Mexican food and fun.

I can hope I can count on your sponsorship by joining us as a $5000 Dignatario, $2500 Socio, $1000 Compadre, or $500 Amigo for this important event.  Of course, any and all contributions will be greatly appreciated."

Dignatario, Socio, Compadre, Amigo?  Seriously?  You've GOT to be kidding me.....

May your Cinco de Mayo be in celebration of the Mexican Army overtaking Ken Miller's bad form and Oklahoma's unfortunate policies.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
