Hey Kossacks! As you may know, the 2011 Netroots Nation convention is coming up soon. Every year we have a staff of photographers who cover the event so that we can share the experience of what happens there with the Internet. Typically we have three photographers cover the event, but this year we are one short. So if you're a photographer, and would like to volunteer to lend us a hand this year, read on...
Your job as a staff photographer is to help us get photos of all of what goes on during the event. This will involve shooting photos of speakers at panels and key notes, but also getting shots of the attendees, and as best you can, capturing the experience of Netroots Nation.
A couple important points to consider:
1) It is a demanding job. You'll be ducking in and out of panels to get photos and then editing them as you go. If there's a couple panels you really want to see, we usually can make arrangements, but generally you're seeing panels just long enough to get the photos we need. On the bright side, you do get seating right up front for the key notes.
2) We do editing and posting of photos throughout the event. So you'll need to have a laptop with you, and have a good work flow for turning around photos relatively quickly.
3) This is an unpaid position but you do retain rights to your photos.
Like I said, it's a lot of work, but it's a hell of a lot of fun. This is my third year shooting the event and I'm totally looking forward to it. Anyhow, if you're interested in signing on with us, please post a comment below with a link to some samples of your work.
