When DK4 came around I had a spurt of diary activity--for some reason I felt "safer" and decided to take the plunge. I even made some lists about what I might like to write about. I've been writing one in my head for a couple months now, but when the opportunity comes to put typing to the test, I fail. I thought perhaps writing a "this-is-not-a-diary" diary would embarrass me enough to force me into it, so here it is.
I was very active in my teacher's union for a period of about seven years in the late '70s to early '80s, when collective bargaining was made law in California. I was heavily involved in the formation of the bargaining unit and the negotiation of the first contract, along with the handling of grievances. In light of the current Republican efforts, I thought it might be interesting for people to see what it was like before and after collective bargaining.
So now that I told you this, I have to do it, right? Otherwise I'll look like a fool. Now to get to work....
