Who's your daddy?
The Senate blocked a bill Tuesday that would repeal about $2 billion a year in tax breaks for the five biggest oil companies, a Democratic response to $4-a-gallon gasoline that might fare better when Congress and the White House negotiate a deal later this year to increase the government's ability to borrow.
It's noted that it was defeated via 'procedural vote' and the Dems have a hope of tying, still, to the debt ceiling/deficit issue.
And Blue Dogs, integral part of the Democratic Party - can't live without them, I am told - again come to help out the GOP and screw the little people:
Republicans and some Democrats opposed the tax increase, saying it would hurt domestic drilling while doing nothing to reduce gas prices. The vote was 52-48 in favor of the measure, short of the 60 votes needed to advance it. Three Democrats — Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Mark Begich of Alaska — joined with nearly all Republicans in opposing the measure. Two Republicans, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine, voted for it.
And just a surprising is that the Chamber of Commerce - whom I now consider as bad as any terrorist organization in terms of what they would like to do to my country and my remaining years - thinks it is a bad idea and republicans....well:
Some GOP lawmakers argued that the bill would increase gas prices further. However, the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service concluded that eliminating the tax breaks would be unlikely to result in higher gasoline prices, which are influenced by a host of factors. The report said the bill would raise about $1.2 billion in 2012. By comparison, the five oil companies had combined revenues of $1.5 trillion last year.
That is just so disgusting.
Wait-staff, pizza delivery people all have to declare the fucking change they get in tips so they can be taxed on it while these Robber Barons have an entire political party at their beck and call keeping them from paying ANYTHING on the TRILLIONS they make.
$5 gas is just about here and with it comes the economic downturn JUST like it did last time Wall Street speculators pushed it to $5 a gallon to make money out of thin air by sucking it right out of our hides. That's why they are posting these massive profits
Now...Dems have tried to launch an investigation into price fixing.
Sens. Claire McCaskill, D-MO, and Chuck Schumer, D-NY, today called for the Federal Trade Commission to launch an investigation into potential price fixing by oil refiners.
“The irony is we’ve got more rigs drilling domestically than we’ve had in many many years. We’ve got higher production than we’ve had for a long long time. But they’re exporting more and they’re cutting back on their capacity to deliver more gasoline into the supply chain,” McCaskill said at a press conference this morning on Capitol Hill. “Now that is very hard for me to understand.”
We are simply being pumped at the pump.
It's not hard to grasp.
