I read Hot Air so you don't have to.
If you're not familiar with it, HA is a popular blog that attracts only the most rabid tea partiers and Palinistas--the activist element that (I think) really determines the results of primary elections. Over the past several days, as Jon Huntsman's candidacy is launched, I have been really interested in how these hardcore Republicans would react to him.
There have been many other diaries discussing that Huntsman is...well, he's very intelligent, moderate (reasonable), fundamentally decent, very wealthy (can self-finance) AND he's very good-looking. He just looks presidential, much like our own Obama.
In short, Huntsman makes me more than a little uneasy. A lot uneasy. The Republicans would be shrewd to nominate someone who could easily poach away conservative Democrats, making Obama's re-election a lot tougher. But will they?
The answer, I am convinced is no.
A little while ago, on HA, a post about Jon Hunstman quoted him as saying the following:
“If we Americans remain civil to each other, we can deal with our problems, including the debt crisis that hangs over all of us,” Huntsman said.
He noted how the nation came together for a short while after U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., was shot.
“After the shooting in Tucson when Representative Giffords was injured, we talked seriously as a nation about civility. Many Republicans and Democrats even sat together at the State of the Union. Remember that?”
“Now, if we can just sit together and solve our problems,” Huntsman said. “Civility is a lubricant to make the system work.”
See? The dude is reasonable! And no doubt as you read this you found yourself nodding along with the guy. But what was the reaction on Hot Air? 100% hysterical disapprovement.

Earlier he had said of Obama “If he has a different world
view, it doesn’t make him a bad man.”
I want someone who hates Obama. Meet Governor Rick Perry.

And so on and so forth.... And actually the reaction to Huntsman is ALWAYS this hostile.
Of course, this same rabid element hated John Mccain and HE won his nomination, so maybe I am being too hopeful, but reading these comments made me smile from ear to ear. Yes, pretty please, PICK SOMEONE ELSE REPUBLICANS!!!!
BTW, haha, have been gone from Daily Kos for soooo long. Hello everyone! :)
