So labor is sick of having to support the second most enthusiastic capitalist party against the first most enthusiastic capitalist party. Good for them, it's time. So what comes next then?
Do they have to wait until they find the right Dem candidates who will support the needs of working families? That may take a while.
Instead, why not run their own candidates under their own party? Let's cut out the middle man. Hoping the Dems are going to do fuck all for labor is idiotic at this point. They don't care about labor. This is better than the Reps who actively hate labor, but useless is as useless as does.
Labor is the last progressive force alive in the USA. They still have a ground game and some money like no one else on the left, but they are on the firing line. Rather than dutifully working for useless Democrats I think it's time for them to work for and run their own candidates.
Before you say Nader, recall that the Greens don't have an built-in voter and volunteer mass like labor does. Labor could run a credible candidate in a three-way race and have a very good chance, especially if the Rep was a Teahadi.
Finally, I should mention that this is not a safe course. There is no safe course. The only thing that is certain is that labor and the middle class are doomed if the course we're on continues too much longer. Our best hope may be to unleash a genuinely populist political party into the process, one with the money and boots on the ground of the unions.
Happy Saturday Night!
