Did not see anyone mention this on Daily Kos, and searched by the SB5 tag, so I thought I would bring this local story to the larger community.
It seems like the backlash to Ohio SB5 may have it's first victim.....
For those who do not know, Ohio Senate Bill 5 was the bill that limited collective bargaining rights for all unions. Ohio and Gov. Kaisch went further that even Scott Walker and limited those rights for Police and Firefighters as well.
I personally know several friends who have always been hardcore Republicans who also happen to be firemen, teachers, police officers. They are now steaming mad about this attack on their union rights.
These are the people running into danger every day to save our lives and property. These are the teachers slaving away trying to educate our kids, most of the times with their hands tied behind their back due to budgets and testing regulations.
Well now we have one Republican State Senator, Jimmy Stewart, who is resigning from the Ohio Senate. He has been taking heat for his vote for that bill. How big a factor that facing the voters is in his decision to leave is not fully known, but it had to help.
With recall elections pending against state senators in Wisconsin, a petition to give the citizens the right to overturn the SB5 law in Ohio, and the recall petition against our northern neighbor Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, along with the big win in NY-26, progressives need to keep up the fight.
If you are an Ohio Voter and have not signed the petition to put SB5 on the ballot then

And If you are a Michigan voter you can get more information here about efforts in your state. It is not often a Buckeye says this but in this case, GO WOLVERINES. :-)
