This message was originally released on the Citizens Against Patrick McHenry Facebook page.
I recorded and posted the viral video of Chairman McHenry calling Elizabeth Warren a liar last week. I'm writing today from my personal account because I have a personal request for you. I want you to stop asking Patrick McHenry for an apology, instead join me in working now to defeat him in 2012.
We simply are not going to get the apology so many have asked for so we are left with no other option but to begin the process of replacing McHenry with someone better. There are smart, progressive people out looking for a solid candidate to take McHenry on as we speak and we need to give them some backup. I want anyone even thinking of taking this guy on in this strongly red district to know they are not heading into this fight alone.
Why is this worth your money? Politicians understand few things and money is at the top of that list. McHenry received big donations from big banks, and after last week's performance, no one can deny that the money bought them what they wanted. This isn't about McHenry, it's about every elected official out there who is thinking of going after Elizabeth Warren and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) on behalf of corporate interests. Ms Warren is the only person in all of Washington, DC tasked with protecting folks on Main Street from corrupt corporations. She's got our backs, so we need to have hers.
Give anything you can. Give $5, or $10, $25 or $50. I didn't create the ActBlue page, but I was its first contributor and I'm asking you to join me.
I have watched plenty of hearings in my day, I built the Committee Dashboard, the first website that puts all their livefeeds in one place. The type of treatment Ms Warren received is typically reserved for people who cause disasters, and even some of them get an apology. The look on her face when the Chairman accused her of lying broke my heart. However, I was inspired by the sheer number of people who rose up to defend her almost immediately. McHenry could not have seen that coming, I doubt anyone did. After all, when was the last time an appointee on a comparable level inspired so many people?
It is because of that reaction that I know there are a lot of people out there who are ready to help defeat McHenry and send a message to every elected official: you mess with Elizabeth Warren, you mess with all of us.
We flocked to Facebook in unusually large numbers and took over Chairman McHenry's wall, and the stream of comments continues to this day. We raised awareness about McHenry's enormous contributions from big banks, not to mention his seriously long list of controversies. We all know what comes next, the fight to unseat him.
So join me, and donate today.
Thank You,
Will Urquhart
