Loggersbrat and I will be leading the Sunday Service at Netroots this year. If you are planning on attending the conference, please come join us at 9 AM. We will end well before the community service project, so there is no conflict. All are welcome to attend: those from all faiths, those with no faith, and anyone in between. I am Jewish, loggersbrat is Episcopalian. Last year the two of us led the impromptu service with linkage, who is a non-theist.
This is my third year attending, and both in Pittsburgh and Vegas (if such a thing is possible in Vegas) I ended on a spiritual high. What is it about joining with other political activists, listening to some wonderful speakers, some previously known to me and some not, meeting old and new friends, that is so inspiring?
"Inspiration," of course, has the root word "spirit." My spirit is fed by the combination of being with others of similar beliefs and having those beliefs affirmed with learning and companionship and fun. In this service, I want to strengthen that feeling and tie it to various spiritual beliefs.
We are looking for people of different faiths or philosophies to contribute brief messages to us. What does your belief system say about the need to take action to improve the lives of others? Has your faith led to your activism? Does it give you strength to go on? What words have inspired you to action?
These questions apply equally well to secularism.
A selection of messages will be read at the service. Messages from those not at the conference are welcome as well as those from attendees. You can leave a message in the comments, or email me (email listed in my profile). If you belong to one of Daily Kos' religious groups (or atheist groups) you can republish this to that group as well.
Thanks to everyone. Hope to see you in Minneapolis.
