I’m seriously pissed off.  My hands are shaking.  My heart is beating fast.  I can feel my blood pressure rising.  I decided to write this diary to get it out.

I just read an article about AZ legislatures wanting to tie extending unemployment benefits to tax breaks for companies in our state. UI which they didn’t do on purpose in regular session. UI which we are eligible for because of our high unemployment, which the US Congress traded tax breaks for the extremely wealthy for.  Benefits which are being threatened at state level for more tax breaks for companies.  Companies that just posted record profits and have been laying people off.  Tax cuts they said they would not do for three years because “we the people” put a billion dollar a year sales tax increase on ourselves to save education, which they gutted anyway.  I talk about this in my article Billion Dollar Liars.  It just never ends.

Tying unemployment benefits to tax cuts in AZ Special Session.

CEO’s have record profits in AZ.

Billion dollar tax hike for schools that got cut anyway.

Health care and education cuts in AZ.

I’m also POed because our whole state is on fire and Gov. Brewer, and who knows how many others, are going to the Paris Air Show in two weeks, at how much cost to the taxpayers after voting to end health care for hundreds of thousands in our state.

Latest wildfire news. Wallow fire now second largest in our history.  I know it will become the largest.

Brewer going to Paris.

And why did Huppenthal, our secretary of education, need to go to China a few weeks ago?  He doesn’t even like China which he says in so many words in an interview on Horizon, PBS, the only accounting of this trip I have yet to see from anyone.  What did that cost us?  This is the same guy trying to end multi cultural studies even to the University in our state.  He went to China?

AZ superintendent of schools Huppenthal's China trip.

Huppenthal on Mexican-American studies.

Why do these people have money to galavant around the world while we are in such dire straights? Where is the news media telling us what they are costing us for their trips?

I’m just tired of it.  So...sorry for the rant. But thanks, I needed that.

4:17 PM PT: Update:  ABC 15 in Phoenix just reported Rep. Gossar,( cong dist 1, my dist) blaming the fire on the federal government.  They kept the forest from being thinned. Right.  Like they caused it not to rain.  Like they made someone leave a hot campfire which they think is the likeliest cause of the fire.  Grrrrrrrrrrr. They haven't put the story on their page yet.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
