You'll see my original issues below, but now this is a Tony Awards Liveblog until further notice.
This is short. And it's an immediate reaction. His opening number "It's Not Just for Gays Anymore" would have been really funny at a gay piano bar. But it's offensive on television. If you just saw it, it was a fine number, but the going out of the way to say "it's not just for gays anymore" involving (straight? who knows) straight sex symbols and veteran actors in the audience struck me as not self-deprecating, but really frankly offensive.
Now, that I said that, and we have turned this into a Liveblog, there are lots of good things happening in tonight's broadcast, which are now on-topic as far as down thread is concerned. So join us, if you're watching, let's have a good time!
All that being said, I am very proud and very much looking forward to seeing my old friend and former colleague Jim Parsons featured on tonight's broadcast.
Let's discuss!
