One of the earliest liberal bloggers (before there even were blogs) was Nance. Nance has been frustrated by the breakdown of liberal unity since President Obama's election. She does a great breakdown on the types of critics, from the left, that the President faces. Here are some of the types of critics she describes:
There is no middle class
The first thing I discovered is that there is no longer any such thing as the middle class (hey, who knew?). If you foolishly believe that you are middle class, well, I apologize for being the bearer of such sad tidings, but you no longer exist. If you own a decent home, have a good job, are able to pay your bills, drive a serviceable vehicle, and can afford to help put your kids through college, you only live in your own imagination. If you have neighbors, friends, coworkers or family members who also believe they are middle class, please advise them (as gently as possible) that they are deluding themselves. Your middle class communities are a figment of your collective imagination. You actually live in a van down by the river; you’re just too politically naïve to have noticed.
There are no regular Democrats
While the Democratic party continues to do its thang, plain ol’ Democrats no longer exist either. Democratic voters now belong to one of at least three dozen or so political subsets, e.g. New Democrats, neo-Democrats, Democraps, Democarpers, Democritters, semi-demi-crats, et cetera.
Everything is a conspiracy
One of the most important things I learnt from the internetz is that it’s ALL a conspiracy, all of it, everything, from the beginning of time to the last second you experienced, the last breath you took. And everyone everywhere is in on it, except you. Knowing about the conspiracy is extremely important; that’s because The Conspiracy™ is the precursor to The Revolution™, which is imminent.
the Pathologically Persecuted
the Pathologically Persecuted are still among us, as though they would ever let us forget them or just how persecuted they really are. You know the drill. You greet them with an innocuous, “Good morning,” which is then responded to with comments like, “Well, I suppose it’s a good morning for SOME people …”
To their credit, the Pathologically Persecuted are possessed of boundless energy, and are slavishly devoted to their cause. They are also possessed of an imagination that defies logic. There is no comment emanating from a political source they cannot interpret as a direct insult to themselves and/or a blatant threat to their very existence.
I have often been tempted to extend to the Perpetually Persecuted a simple invitation to “Have a nice day,” which would only lead to my being labelled anti-Perpetually Persecuted.
