Welcome to Brothers and Sisters, the weekly meet-up for prayer* and community at Daily Kos. We put an asterisk on pray* to acknowledge that not everyone uses conventional religious language, but may want to share joys and concerns, or simply take solace in a meditative atmosphere. Anyone who comes in the spirit of mutual respect, warmth and healing, is welcome.
So today is the boy's 13th birthday. I am officially the mother of a teenager.
Having a teenager in the house is, um, a little intimidating. He's a good kid, (mostly) minds me, gets straight A's, loves his pooties and his woozle.
Likes to play first-person-shooter video games, but knows better than to ask me for "Grand Theft Auto." Likes NASCAR as much as I do, even though we disagree on favorite drivers.
He's getting to the stage where he wants to hang out with his friends, but he'll still curl up and watch a video with me - we watched "Avatar" last night. The extent of our arguments revolve around which is cooler to watch on a Saturday afternoon - motocross or golf, and whether to see "Fast Five" or "X-Men: First Class." (He won the motocross one. I won the "X-Men" argument.)
As I write this, the boy is hanging out with his dad. It is, after all, Father's Day. He'll be back in a little while, however, and I'll start cooking his birthday dinner. He asked for steak and shrimp. Shrimp I can do, but steak... I always have an, um, interesting time cooking steak...
Maybe tonight is when I teach him how to cook a steak.
He is, after all, 13.

So. How is everyone this week?
