Day after day of no rain when we should have monsoonal rains, or at least often do. Or used to.
Highs around 105, relentless heat, so debilitating. 10 months of no real precipitation. My interior biota decided this was a good time to adversely infect my lungs and nasal cavities. What are they trying to tell me? I wonder, as I cough and sneeze in the midst of all of this dry and wind and more fires, though not a lot of fire too near here at the moment.
That could change.
The El Nino rains from last winter/spring/summer that filled the aquifer in the mountains west, have sustained our wells here in Carlsbad, New Mexico very well, so far; but it's a matter of time before we start getting into the water restrictions fight. And it is a fight; the residents hate it.
I hate their lawns, but I'm starting to understand, because I've heard that our Republican mayor Dale Janway is going around saying we should double our population and bring in industry. Industry does tend to use up a lot of water, no? How much? Maybe like most? Maybe like 90%? And how about the fracking? How about the fucking fracking?
How many people who live in Carlsbad have a clue about how groundwater works?
Our population is around 25,000. More or less.
And then we get to wind up like Texas, with industry sucking on all the big straws, and then spitting their tubercular sputum back in, just because it's convenient.
And the regular populace gets fucked over again, AS usual, Republican or not. Endless water restrictions. Water getting sequestered via mining operations, taken out of the hydrological cycle.

I am still writing on the local Topix Forum. There is starting to be a sea change. I am changing from being the newbie everyone hates. I have hung in there long enough to get noticed by a few more different people. I am getting more positive ratings. I am getting listened to differently by other people whom I think may live here.
We've had some threads about illegal drugs to work with lately, and I am seeing more people coming out of the woodwork, even with unregistered names, saying "Yes, that's right!"
Here's one excellent comment from Ron:
The police never charge a person with mere posetion, they use creative writing to make as many charges as they can to see how many stick,if you think you get justice from the court system think again,it is set up to put as many people into the prison-industrily complex as posible, this way you are under their control and they pull all the strings they have to keep it that way.
If you doubt this statement then you need to attend one trail, any one ,just set in on a single trail and you will never view the system with the belief that the system is set up to provide justice,we who set in as observers know the system is set up to perpeturate the system and not for justice or the American way.
Okay, fellow Kossacks, are going to hassle Ron for his failure to write in perfect English, or are going to say; "Ron, you fucking rock!"
You know what my answer is.
I am learning to try to listen, and to apologize when I'm called out for being a jerk. I got into an interchange with one person that turned out with our both apologizing and (virtually) shaking hands.
And then another poster posted a comment, suggesting we should all have a barbeque.
It's changing.
That's interesting.
Small actions.
Comment ratings on Topix are anonymous, with flavors kinda. And people can post without registering user names. One can register a user name so that people can get some continuity, though. But it can be very strange when a registered user gets banned, and tries to come back with the same user name, and then there are other people pretending to be the same person. It's like a username cloud.
They're at Topix.net. They seem to have access everywhere. If you're out in the boonies, you might check them out.
It won't be easy, but there may well be some lost soul like you, who is still trying, and would really like to hear from you.
love!
