Please feel free to file this in your own 'Memory Warehouses' under 'Profiles in Courage.' I have been following Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur for a very long time, and time and time again she just astounds me with the same kind of energy that Senator Bernie Sanders has, Russ Feingold, Alan Grayson, and others have stood up for and I admire them all so very much.
As I stated in a recent diary, Congresswoman Kaptur has been trying to restore Glass-Stegall with little if any support from both parties, and it pains me to know this.
I found the below video on one of my favorite websites: ttp:/jessescrossroadscafe.blogspot.com because often besides providing amazing up to date information about what is going on globally for Americans Jesse often talks about the moral imperative of a fair and just society, if that society it to remain viable and healthy, and even sustainable.
On the below video, (which I am sorry to say I cannot find a transcript for), Congresswoman Kaptur, without pulling any punches calls all of Congress, including her own party (that would be us) a 'Gutless Institution.' Unfortunately, she is absolutely correct. I wish it were not so.
She also dares to call out those same (what she calls Buzzards) Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, and the other Wall St./Bankstas that got fully bailed out and paid off for destroying our national and international economies as:
Unforgiveable - Unpatriotic and nothing less than Heartlessness. And again, I wish it were not so, but she is correct.
She goes on to describe how people in her district fill out paper plates with messages on them to her from the food banks and soup lines, where they talk about after paying their rent, gas, etc, that at the end of the day, they have no money for food for their families, and that is the bill that she is voting on in this video.
She states, very, very clearly how both parties: HAVE HURT OUR REPUBLIC. And again, I wish it were not so, but my question is why are we not hearing this same level of 'Profiles in Courage,' from every single Democrat Senator, Congressman/woman and most especially President Obama?
Here is the video:
It is certainly clear that Congresswoman Kaptur is saying: A pox on both of your houses, and most certainly she is correct.
Believe me, I know the Rethugs are worse than 'our own gang of crooks,' but that is not the point here. The point is who is going to stand up for the Middle Class and poor, when the food stamps, unemployment and the disabled get cut off at the knees, as does Social Security and Medicare?
The 'perfect storm' is where we are all in the midst of, and regardless of who we blame, changing chairs on the Titanic is not working, as is the so called 'austerity movement.'
So here is a clue about the stupid and endless wars, that we can no longer deny our own Imperial Presidency just keeps on supporting:
The $113 Billion Hole: Ten Things America Gave Up This Year to Pay for the War in Afghanistan:
– Provide 57.5 Million Children With Low-Income Health Care For 2011
– Provide 23 Million People With Low-Income Health Coverage In 2011
– Give 20.2 Million $5,500 Pell Grants To Students In 2011
– Provide 14.35 million Military Veterans With VA Medical Care In 2011
– Give 14.7 million Children Head Start Funding In 2011
– Give 14.26 Million Scholarships To University Students In 2011
– Employ 1.93 million Firefighters In 2011
– Hire 1.75 Million Elementary School Teachers In 2011
- Hire 1.65 Million Police Officers In 2011
– Equip 67.8 Million Households With The Ability To Use Wind Power In 2011
– Equip 25.39 Million Households With The Ability To Use Solar Photovoltaic Energy In 2011
Of course, none of this accounts for the human cost of losing our sons and daughters in war. 177 American soldiers have died in combat in 2011, and countless Afghans lost their lives as well.
As decision-makers plot their next steps in Afghanistan, they should weigh these costs as they determine the fate of a war that most Americans oppose and that even Republicans arebeginning to back away from.

And we wonder why we are not talking about 'accountability,' for those that led our nation into total catastrophe which is exactly what Congresswoman Kaptur is talking about?
This reminds me again of the analogy of a snake swallowing it's own tail. We keep going back into the insane vicious circle of national and international gridlock, whereby our credit markets have completely ceased up, because no one will hold the Banks/Wall St. accountable, so that we cannot address the housing crisis, so that none of our Corporate over lords, who keep selling our jobs overseas, (with absolutely no taxes being paid by them), keep holding our entire nation hostage.
Only do me a big favor will you? Stop saying that this is just about the Republicans because it is not.
What is really going on here is nothing more than a power struggle, by both parties to gain the biggest money they can in their coffers and to keep the Status Quo (the top one percent, and the MIC machine, and the Corporations) in charge, and guess what?
You don't have a say in it. As the late George Carlin said: You're not in the club.
In fact, I would venture to say most of our politicians have finally figured out the absolute perfect system, to 'get on the tit, stay on the tit, and continue to act like they are not responsible for being on the tit,' as they allow the mass bought off media to back them up.
All I can say, is may the entire Universe, bless Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur for speaking truth to power. She is as down and dirty and honest as they come.
A true 'Profiles in Courage,' moment in our nation, only don't blame me if I wish that every single thing that she said in this video were not coming out of the same mouths of every single Democrat, including our own President today.
Again, wish it were not so.
Thanks as always,
Ms. B.
