Seriously.
I've been waiting for somebody else to diary this, but it appears that nobody's taking the reins, so I'll get my rantalicious ass in the saddle then.
Remember a few months back when Scott Adams, the creator of the (really dorky) comic strip Dilbert, was in the news for generally being a douchebag?
For months, Adams has been pretending to be the world's biggest Scott Adams fan under the handle "PlannedChaos." (Planned Chaos is a book by Austrian economist and libertarian hero Ludwig von Mises.) Today, he fessed up to his sockpuppetry.
It started with a thread on link-sharing community MetaFilter about Adams' Wall Street Journal op-ed on how awesome and successful he is even though he didn't get straight-As in school. Some people said mean things about the article, suggesting Scott Adams wrote like someone who has "actually convinced himself… that he's the smartest guy in the room."
That's when "PlannedChaos" weighed in, furiously defending Adams:
As far as Adams' ego goes, maybe you don't understand what a writer does for a living. No one writes unless he believes that what he writes will be interesting to someone. Everyone on this page is talking about him, researching him, and obsessing about him. His job is to be interesting, not loved. As someone mentioned, he has a certified genius I.Q., and that's hard to hide.
Huh. Narcissist much, sir? Btw, you should read that entire article. I only posted what I could due to copyright restrictions, but Jesus Christ on an apple pie in the bed of a Chevy pick-up truck on July 4th, Scott Adams is an egotist second only to Mr. Charlie "Winning" Sheen.
As it turns out, Adams is a much, MUCH bigger douchebag then first thought.
Some cursory Googling on Douchebag Adams (or Adams Douchebag ... or maybe Scott Douchebag Adams, take your pick) reveal that he's been in some hot water from women's organizations in the past, and with good reason. It appears that Adams has some sort of affiliation with Men's Rights Activists (MRAs), but he's even seen as a dickhead to those guys.
Douchebag sez:
The reality is that women are treated differently by society for exactly the same reason that children and the mentally handicapped are treated differently. It’s just easier this way for everyone. You don’t argue with a four-year old about why he shouldn’t eat candy for dinner. You don’t punch a mentally handicapped guy even if he punches you first. And you don’t argue when a women tells you she’s only making 80 cents to your dollar. It’s the path of least resistance. You save your energy for more important battles.
...
I KNOW!
So Scott Adams Douchebag hasn't exactly been in my good graces for quite some time now. And, in my opinion, if he's trying to get more people to read his stupid comic, this is probably not the way to go about it. Dilbert peaked quite some time ago, dude. Like last century.
But Douchebag's most current interview for becoming a regular contributor to Fox News is going swimmingly well, as his latest hateful and offensive screed comes to light:
In an unfortunately named blog post titled "Pegs and Holes," Adams notes that of late "Powerful men have been behaving badly, e.g. tweeting, raping, cheating, and being offensive to just about everyone in the entire world." Could this, you ask, possibly be the beginning of a critical line of new thinking about the abuse of power? Adams even boldly declares that "Obviously we shouldn't blame the victims." That's mighty big of you, sir!
Then he goes spectacularly bonkers. "Society is organized in such a way that the natural instincts of men are shameful and criminal while the natural instincts of women are mostly legal and acceptable," he continues, explaining that civilization "has evolved to keep males in a state of continuous unfulfilled urges, more commonly known as unhappiness ... society is organized as a virtual prison for men's natural desires." He then fancifully concocts a futuristic scenario involving chemical castration, oxytocin drugs, and artificial insemination to bring about "no rape, fewer divorces, stronger friendships, and a lot of other advantages," a "society of huggers."
Now you've been upgraded in The Shiz Rating Scale™ from Douchebag to Fucking Son of a Bitch for apologizing for rape, Adams. I mean, goddamnit, how is this form of speech even remotely acceptable in the world at large?! This is NOT OK! This is not even REMOTELY OK! And yadda yadda yadda, free speech blah blah, but this is just not dope to women everywhere, especially those of us with daughters.
Fuck you, man! How dare you?! How fucking dare you?! Rape is not a motherfucking joke. This isn't funny. No one's laughing. And, Adams, you Fucking Son of a Bitch you, you're rapidly destroying any kind of legitimacy in the media you once had.
Which is why the dude will be hired by either Fox News or CNN next week, mark my words.
Let me really pound this home to you guys, how not fucking funny this shit truly is:
Every two minutes someone in the United States is sexually assaulted. One out of six American women will be sexually assaulted in her lifetime. But only forty percent of these crimes will be reported. Only six percent of rapists spend a day in jail.
Sobering, eh? The entire article is too disgustingly depressing to quote at any length, but it's really good ... and sobering. And it makes me want to watch Meg Ryan movies on rerun for the rest of my life.
Btw, Wiki says that Scott Adams is a former member of Mensa, has an MBA, previously worked in telecommunications, uses daily affirmations, and "lean(s) Libertarian, minus the crazy stuff".
Figures. He's just a Fucking Son of a Bitch to me.
