The Progressive Change Campaign Committee's endorsement of Eric Griego for Congress received a huge amount of media attention -- nationally, locally, and in Hispanic media.
USA Today called our early support for bold progressive candidates like Griego a "pre-emptive strike against conservative Democrats" who are thinking about running -- and the Washington Post called Griego "definitely a race to watch."
Within hours, PCCC members chipped in $15,000 to give Eric momentum before next week's fundraising deadline -- can you help reach the goal of $20,000 today?
Some conservative Democrats are thinking about running against Eric (and against progressives in other districts). But our national fundraising momentum will make them think twice! Please donate what you can.
USA TODAY:
A leading group on the political left is throwing its support behind its first congressional candidate of the 2012 cycle, in part as a pre-emptive strike against conservative Democrats...
The group backing Griego says there's no reason why a "Blue Dog" Democrat should represent a district that gave 60% of its vote to Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election. Griego, the group says, already beat a conservative Democrat in the primary for his state Senate seat.
WASHINGTON POST:
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee’s first endorsement of the season: Eric Griego, an unabashed liberal who’s running for an open House seat in New Mexico. Lefties who want to elect better Dems are hoping to get an early start before several conservative Blue Dog Dems jump in. Definitely a race to watch.

NM POLITICS .NET:
A high-profile endorsement is earning Democratic U.S. House candidate Eric Griego lots of national attention today. And Progressive Change Campaign Committee is already helping Griego raise money with a fundraising e-mail and web ads....
Griego’s endorsement has been mentioned today by Roll Call, Talking Points Memo, the Washington Post, ABC, NBC and USA Today.
LATIN AMERICAN HERALD TRIBUNE:
New Mexico state Sen. Eric Griego vowed Thursday after receiving the backing of the influential Progressive Change Campaign Committee that he will continue to defend “progressive policies” if elected next year to the U.S. House.
Griego called for raising taxes on large corporations and the wealthy because, contrary “to the policies supported by the Republicans and some conservative Democrats, the budget crisis cannot be solved on the backs of children and the elderly.”
This guy is great. We need him in Congress. It will only happen if people like you donate $3 -- click here!
LATINA LISTA:
According to a press release from the group: Our elections team vigorously vets candidates, and all endorsed candidates must meet a 3-part test: Are they a bold progressive, are they committed to running a competent campaign, and are they viable? Eric Griego is all three.
It was the last qualification that caught my eye -- "viable."
At a time when state parties are battling over redistricting to diminish minority representation and there are mean-spirited people saying there are too many Latinos in political office, it's refreshing to hear a national mainstream organization determine a Latino candidate is viable enough to invest millions of dollars into their campaign.
