I always wondered why Cable stations varied by zip codes. Turns out politicians like the Mayor of Lancaster PA ( who said NO to MTV) can control what stations are offered. I was told by a really nice and helpful Customer Service lady at Comcast this morning. She also told me that they receiving calls from subscribers about carrying Current TV. Keep up the pressure. Unfortunately I am switching back to Verizon who carries Current. But only on the next tier which means paying them more money. I'll watch it on I Tunes.
I was actually going to drop TV and go back to FIOS and phone. But the cost of FIOS with a land line and cable was actually cheaper. This morning my work order and the porting over of my phone number back to Verizon went through. That's when the internet was cut off. I got back on the phone with Comcast who tried to reset my modem. I'm in the computer business and I tried to reset on my end too. I knew the problem was on their end, because last week the same thing happened when my contract with them ran out and a new order was put in. I lost Internet then too. Any way the person on the phone just thought I was a disgruntled customer and escalated the call to another department. That department of course has no number so I was just supposed to wait for the call. I decided to give it one more try and called Comcast back and this time got a really nice woman who wanted to help. Turns out they are "docked" if they can't resolve a call within 8 minutes. She told me that any time a new work order is put in ( in this case my number switching back to a Verizon number) the modem understands something has changed and basically stops working. That's why my computer had internet access but I kept getting the Comcast service screen to reactivate my service. This nice lady told me if I ever get that screen it means there is a change in service and there is nothing I can do except call them. I said why didn't the first person tell me that and that's when she told me about the 8 minute rule and how people are calling about Comcast and Current TV. The modem was reset, we lost the telephone and when she called me back we talked about channel line ups being decided by Politicians.
