We've reached the end of Countdown's debut week; doing this diary again feels like "old hat" already. :D
Let's get SPARKy for Friday night. Check out these family photos of families with critters - AAAaaaaWWWwwww! Not all college athletes are wanting cars for their playing time; this dude LIFTED one off somebody. Have y'all ever wondered how some of those military operation names get thought up? Wonder no more! I can understand some PTSD paranoia after a traumatic event; Ray Nagin takes that to a whole new level. Finally, if you just can't get enough cheese dip in your life, you need to make a pilgrimage here. :D
Let's Countdown!
"Raise or Fold" AKA "Raising the Stakes" - President Obama talked debt ceiling after looking at a mechanical $hit cleaner. Senators Reid & McConnell have been invited to the White House on Monday; the meeting with Mitchie should be fun! ;D
Rep. Cantor's little going off in a huff yesterday had been planned for awhile; he likes the drama queen stuff, huh?
Speaker Sobbing Small Price to Pay Goldilocks insists that no compromise is possible on tax increases - whatever. Senator Max Baucus let slip that Medicare cuts might be possible. Y'all remember his part in the HCR shtick, yes?
Senator Jim "Waterloo" DeMint insists that any GOBP that votes to raise the debt ceiling is gone, finished, finito, etc. Anita Dunn gets to talk Dem strateegery on this debt ceiling shtick. Uh, Ms. Dunn, cuts to Medicare does not mean "shared sacrifice!" She expects the GOBP to negotiate "in good faith"? Honey, what planet have YOU been on?!
Hey!! It's David Shuster!!! :D He's got a new gig, yes? ;D He had some lovely words for Senator Baucus. I've been saying for years that the GOBP was willing to take the economy off the cliff if they thought it would further their political fortunes, and, by golly, I was correct. Who would've thunk it?! The House voted against a bill authorizing our action in Libya but wouldn't cut off funding. What the spark??!!
"Tortured Logic" AKA "Abuse of Power" - When Keith tweeted that he was doing a "special comment" indicating the need for David Petraeus to be withdrawn from consideration to lead the CIA, I thought it would be for reasons along the lines of some sort of conflict of interest between his military career and a civilian gig. If David Petraeus is still touting the previous administration's proverbial "ticking time bomb" torture logic, then he does need to go! However, I won't hold my breath on President Obama taking his name out of the process.
General Petraeus was against torture before he was for it. John Dean could have some interesting thoughts about this $hit. *&^%$#@! He thinks General Petraeus has been mulling this idea over for a long time; that idea scares me more than anything else, I think. Mr. Dean thinks General Petraeus might be trying to "make nice" with some of the questionable characters in the CIA over which he'll be in charge. Uh, I don't think I like that image, either. A multi - star general is scarred of some crackpot civilians?! The dude's had military training; he could probably kill most people standing on 1 foot!
"Special Comment" - Keith believes General Petraeus is "unfit to serve" as CIA director. AQ has an invisibility cloak? EEK! The GOBP will have a field day with that. ;D And, George Carlin got a mention in the oxymoran of the "military intelligence" realm!
"Time Marches On!" - Here's a kitty kitty kitty hoping for ice cream - AAAaaaaWWWwww! And, why wouldn't a drunk person just try to crawl underneath the door of a locked bathroom stall? Of course, what actually happened is WAY better video! :D A Walmart employee didn't take kindly to a couple of gents trying to shoplift beer.
"In Contempt" AKA "Judging the Justice" AKA "Lest Ye Be Judged" - "Justice" Clarence Thomas may be one of the most unqualified people to be on SCOTUS, but he's not stupid; he's not going anywhere. He knows the balance of SCOTUS is at stake. Rep. Chris Murphy wants to apply the same ethics standards of federal judges to SCOTUS justices; yea, good luck with that, honey. This SCOTUS will declare it unconstitutional! Scalia & Alito have also gotten ethics questions directed toward them; file that under "No $hit, Sherlock!" Jonathan Turley gets "Justice" Thomas duty; he's represented a judge in an impeachment process! YIKES!! Keith, there hasn't been a need for ethics rules for SCOTUS justices in the past because SCOTUS justices actually cared about the rule of law & the Constitution before this current SCOTUS reared their ugly rears. You've got 5 out of 9 "justices" firmly in the pockets of the corporations, the rich, the powerful, etc. That didn't used to be the case, or it at least wasn't the case to the point where it would affect their decision process in cases before them. If that possibility existed in the past, SCOTUS justices did care enough about the rule of law & the Constitution to either recuse themselves from the case or admit a possible conflict of interest or other similar action; they actually cared about country first & Constitution first. That ain't the case with these guys, dear heart. OK...getting off SCOTUS wonk soap box now & breathing. Professor Turley expected Chief Justice Roberts to be a better "administrator"; I didn't - especially after Barack Obama became POTUS.
"WPITW" - Some dude hit a seal on a beach. O..K... Governor Chris Christie can't decide who should be around for debt ceiling negotiations. Lonesome Rhodes wants to smooch Man on Dog Santorum in the mouth. Will that lead to Man on Dog action?!
"Fridays with Thurber" - We get the return of The Sheep in Wolf's Clothing tonight! :D There's a James Thurber audio CD read by the Keithster?! Why did no one tell me about this in the past??!!
