The knee jerk to the atrocity in Norway was to cry "Al Qaeda" and I am surprised at some of those that did, for too long our governments here have been ignoring a cancer within.
If you look at the right wing blogosphere it's anything from complete denial right on down to it being some left wing internationalist plot to take their guns away. No doubt we will hear how guns are not the problem, and that if everyone had been armed everything would have been alright, I'm tired of this argument; the data does not agree.
One only has to tune in [and I recommend Right Wing Watch] to the vile hatred being dangerously mixed with fundamentalist Christianity to lend credence to their "cause" to understand just how some people might be affected.
The pseudo intellectual right wing site Alternate Right is already trying to spread the conspiracy cloud whilst denying they are trying to do so:
I'm not usually one for conspiracy theories, and I don't intend to start now.

If I'm very lucky, I may even get a knock on my own door soon.
The Free Republic of course has the loonies in a paddy
The U.S. and the UN will join hands and use this as an excuse to restrict gun ownership for EVERYONE!
And the scent of freeper denial is overpowering
RedState seem to be trying to ignore the whole thing altogether, no doubt they will come out with a pile of fluff later on.
If you keep on calling everyone that does not agree with you "godless heathens" and crying for "second amendment solutions" every time you don't get your way; you are part of the problem.
I have listened enough to the Front National along with the English Defense league about how immigration is the source of all evil. I have seen enough of religious cults pandering to these hate groups. It is really time that they were all exposed for what they are; dangerous.
We have joked about the "talibangelicals" but I'm afraid that their politics of fear and loathing is not a joke and has to be taken seriously. Fundamentalist religion [any] when mixed with xenophobic dogma is like throwing fuel on a fire. This tactic has been used before with horrifying results. Many of us have said the greatest danger to our society is from within, external forces generally generate unity in the face of adversity.
The media has done a great deal in giving these "spewers of bile" a voice, perhaps it is time for them to rethink their economic model.
My heart goes out to the people of Norway; and the truth of the matter is that this could have happened anywhere in Europe or the US/Canada in the current atmosphere.
Now is the time to talk about this cancer and now is the time for many to rethink their attitudes towards hate spewing cults.
