War doesn't have to happen. As a matter of fact, it shouldn't happen.
And if this woman was president, it wouldn't happen.
I know one asks for trouble when she says "never." If backed into a corner, most of us would reconsider our "nevers" and "always."
But that said, I also think we as a country....we in many countries....too often do not consider the total destruction war inflicts on our planet, and everything on it.
And the more we get entangled in war, the harder it is to untangle the darn mess.
How many presidents probably asked themselves in the privacy of their consciences, "Did we ever think how hard it would be to end this conflict before we ever embarked upon it?"
Meanwhile, most countries continue to fund departments of defense, the military, or their departments of war, although none do as much as the USA, not anywhere close.
But how many countries have a Department of Peace, a segment of government that would work to ensure peace and tranquility among nations, to refine such tactics as negotiations, conflict resolution, aiding countries mired in famine or other natural threats?
Perhaps with funds normally spent to kill people, including civilians, our country could spend such funds helping to fight the dire effects of global warming, doing reforestation, bringing water to isolated communities, fighting AIDS, maleria, cholera, and other epidemics.
This woman, if she were president, would work to build up, not tear down; to construct, not destroy.
I just don't get it at all! Why does humankind want to mess its nest? Our whole globe is our nest, and while we don't want our nest soiled, we hardly think twice before we soil our neighbor's.
As global climate change raises its ugly head on our plains, along the equator, in our arctic regions, along our coastlines, we must stop and consider what we're doing to ourselves. We're hurrying global warming along with our waste of fuels associated with war; we're making whole countries hardly liveable. We're creating thousands of refugees daily. We're starving and not adequately caring for our children and elderly here at home.
These actions breed more war; definitely not peace approaches, lets reconsider our war-thinking and making. Don't bring up Hitler. He's dead and gone! And the mistreatment of Germany after World War I contributed to that country's acceptance of his screwed up thinking. Insanity breeding insanity!
I'm talking about NOW! Now is the time to respect our neighbors and our environment, to nurture them and celebrate them.
Refuse to fight or fund wars any more, like any sane creature would do! Sometimes I think our leaders conversely are insane, and convince the rest of us to be as crazy as they are.
Will you be sane with me and resist?
