Americans United for Change, the SEIU, AFSCME and the NEA
will be running versions of this ad in this districts of House members Eric Cantor (R-VA), Steve King (R-IA-asshole), Denny Rehberg (R-MT), Chip Cravaack (R-MN), Lou Barletta (R-PA), Bobby Schilling (R-IL) and Ann Marie Buerkle (R-NY), along with Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV).
"If Congress doesn’t act by Tuesday, America won’t be able to pay all of its bills," one version of the ad begins. "
Social Security checks, veterans benefits, military pay — all could be at risk because Congressman Bobby Schilling and congressional Republicans want to protect tax breaks for millionaires, oil companies and corporate jets.
So if the check you or your family depends on doesn’t arrive, thank Congressman Schilling.
Tell Congressman Schilling to stop holding the interests of ordinary Americans hostage."
The strategy here is more 2012-focused than about actually getting improved votes out of anyone: Heller, of course, was appointed to replace John Ensign and is in a close race with Rep. Shelley Berkley. Rehberg is challenging Jon Tester for Senate in another close race. King has drawn a strong challenger in Christie Vilsack, who outraised him last quarter. This isn't the first time Cravaack has been the target of an Americans United for Change debt ceiling ad, and of course he has a major optics problem in his district with his family's recent move to New Hampshire.
