Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, along with Sens. Dick Durbin and Chuck Schumer, just spoke to reporters about the latest insanity out of the House. Here are rough highlights of what Reid said.
It's hard to comprehend the confusion they had over there and are still having today.
It's really time that they legislate.
They're having trouble doing that.
Should be easy to get votes now since they've given "right-wing" even more than they had before.
Today he will ask Republican colleagues for ideas on how to "improve my legislation"
He will not do short-term deal.
What is being done in the House is not a compromise. It's not transparent.
He has asked McConnell to meet with him to "work this out."
"The stakes couldn't be higher," this is "literally the security of our nation"
"Compromise is not a bad word"
At this point, Leader Reid, it pretty much is a bad word. Or if not a bad word, a completely absurd one. Not only are House Republicans not compromising, they're getting crazier. It's becoming almost embarrassing for Democratic leaders, Reid and President Obama to continue pleading for compromise when the terrorists in the House spiral deeper into surreality. To use the analogy of the "grown up in the room," somebody needs to take control of the pre-school that's taken over the House.
The grown-up in the room right now should say "enough," and put the 14th Amendment on the table, take everything else off.
(BTW, now is really a bad time for austerity, anyway.)
