Dear Mr. President,
First the Democrats yielded on the stimulus bill, agreeing to outrageous levels of non-stimulative tax cuts with a paltry amount of stimulating spending. Then they ignored the crimes of the banks and let them steal trillions from the nation, guarantying to bail them out yet again. Then they gave in to Republican demands to keep the deficit-exploding Bush tax cuts. Now the Democrats are giving in to the 1937 Republican idea of slashing spending to reduce the deficit in the middle of a jobs depression when we instead desperately need massive infrastructure spending and other investments in our future.
I get that the Republicans are trying to sabotage the economy ahead of the 2012 election, hoping as usual to capitalize on anger and fear, but I'm starting to wonder if the fix is in. If I didn't know about the insanity of Milton Friedman and the Laffer curve, and I was unaware of economic performance and job creation since WW-II, I would swear that you were condoning supply-side economics while ignoring the dangerous externalization of costs & risks by business onto the People - especially by the banks. If I knew nothing of economics, and I trusted your words, I would believe you are validating and vindicating Republican economic theory. And if I didn't know the base of the Republican Party was a cabal of sociopathic, xenophobic, and highly authoritarian corporatists, I might be compelled to vote for a Republican, because after all, it would look to me that you were just trying to do what the Republicans and you know to be economic truth, but are ineffectually not going as far as needed, despite their insistence.
If this ever reaches you Mr. President - for the love of God - please seek guidance from Franklin Roosevelt rather than Ronald Reagan. Please study Keynes and Krugman more than Friedman and Rand. Please stand up and make the compelling case for reality and the truth and against the grand larceny of supply-side deception and the con job of cost & risk externalization through insufficient regulation - because from down here in the lowly places, it seems like you and the Democrats at large are drinking from the same well as the plutarchy, and nothing can ever again regain the nation for the People.
Forget the banks. Forget compromise. Protect and defend the Constitution and the People. Make the case for reality and truth - unless America itself is really just an illusion.
Optimistically
Not that I would expect it to ever reach his eyes, but what the heck.
