this is going to be brief and none too pretty because I am writing on my iPhone. So I apologize in adman for any bizarre word choices.
But Bill Clinton is not the fierce liberal champion that we desperately need today.
It was suggested by the diarist at least in comments, that Bill Clinton would be a fierce defender of the big three. Has everyone forgotten that Bill Clinton presided over the single biggest setback to the safetynet since the safetynet was created when he ended "welfare as we no it?" There was a time in this country when families had a guaranteed floor to their monthly income. It was never adequate but it was something. Bill Clinton signed a the law that ended that guarantee.
Clinton got away with it without too much damage to his reputation because he happened to do it when the economy was strong. But man families were harmed badly and that permanent change took away an important countercyclical balancing mechanism that would have served us well today.
Barack Obama, on the other hand has not done one single thing to undermine the safety net. Yes, he talks about entitlement reform, particularly Medicare reform. And he is right too. The cost of Medicare is growing at an unsustainable rate and "hands off" is just not a responsible position for liberals to take.
And don't forget that Bill Clinton signed bot DADT and DOMA whereas Barack Obama has repealed the former and stopped defending the latter in court.
Now, I'm sorry to dis Bill Clinton, I love and respect the former president. But to unfavorably compare Barack Obama to Bill Clinton is just bullshit.
