Here at Top Comments we strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd and most informative commentary. We depend on your help with talent spotting. If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it to topcomments at gmail by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
Mr. Brillig may never have written a Top Comments diary, but he certainly deserves an award for Best Supporting Cast. Among others, he is my first-string Slayer Of HTML Gremlins, a companion to my Topics Muse, a Purveyor Of Fine URLs, and possibly most importantly, he brings me Mike's Lime or Black Cherry while I am writing.
Follow me below the dingledoodlesquiggliedividerthingie fold for what he surprised me with this week...
Some of you may know Mr. Brillig is a computer scientist; the company he works for specializes in doing what they're told is impossible. Ever since DK4 killed the Top Mojo Star, he's been saying "I wonder if I could write something that would let you run Mojo again?" This past weekend while I was in NY for a memorial service on the 10th anniversary of my mother's passing, he took a stab at it:

Now for the caveats:
(a) It's NOT ready for daily use yet, this is more of a proof-of-concept than anything else. It could be entirely wrong... but he doesn't think so :).
(b) Due to Things That Are Different In DK4, the search string for the time frame previously used to calculate Mojo is harder to set up; ergo the above list covers August 8 from midnite-11:59pm. Which, if I might say so, isn't all that bad an idea, to cover Top Mojo retrospectively.
(c) It eliminates first comments and those labeled Tip Jar, but does not exclude those from pootie diaries or C&J. See: proof of concept.
Those of you hoping for a Real Diary... I'm working on one stemming from a conversation I had this past weekend, I promise - I simply had to share this with you though. Please show Mr. Brillig some mojo love when he chimes in in the comments... and he's the one you want to answer questions. Me... I just write about music, LOLcats, sex and my kids, and have mad comment formatting skills :-).

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
From Expatjourno:
itsjim finds out Obama wasn't taking him out for ice cream after all.
From Seneca Doane:
Not everyone on both sides of the burgeoning Obama wars will agree with this, but I think that perhaps if and when common ground is found it may look something like what RedDan had to say today in weatherdude's rec'd diary.
In his diary, Armando slyly requests a favor from gchaucer2. She gives him everything he asks for, and more -- in style. Serious? Sirius!
From lineatus:
Who's really harming families? Carnivorous Planting speaks the truth.
From ScottyUrb:

Slangist sets it up, and DrTerwilliker hits it out of the park!
From 4Freedom:
Malacandra captures progressive angst perfectly.
From Yours Truly, brillig:
In Sara R's diary The emeraldmaiden drawing, emeraldmaiden herself nicely sums up why we stay, in response to SethRightmer's Why Troll's Don't Win Here.
We're all thinking of Wisconsin tonite. Tony is, too.
