Was lead to this story after visiting /., one of my old haunts. Very cool idea, though I think it is targeted at a different problem.
Fans at a recent right-wing extremist rock festival in Germany thought they were getting free T-shirts that reflected their nationalistic worldview. But after the garment's first wash they discovered otherwise. The original image rinsed away to reveal a hidden message from an activist group.
Now, I can think of a hundred smarmy things to sneak onto a t-shirt and then donate it to some Teabagger rally, but I'm not sure what would be effective. Then again, this group focuses on disillusioned young German men and helping them 'escape' what sounds more like a gang than a political movement.
The primary point of the t-Shirt, according to the article, was to get this message to these people AFTER they'd left the reinforcing environment of their neo-nazi friends and were at home, alone. Apparently like many cults the neo-nazi movement in Germany is self-reinforcing, with severe condemnation for entertaining or even looking at opposing points of view. So in this context, the tactic made sense.
The Tea Party, however, seems to be composed of older folks who are already intransigent, out of society's mainstream, unwilling to change. And, since Teabagger 'demonstrations' and 'gatherings' are so tiny, this kind of tactic would not be easy to accomplish unseen or anonymously.
But it got me thinking that there might be other ways to subtly influence the Teabaggers, and fire up the opposition to them. I liked the diary a few days ago that showed how much more strongly people reacted to being identified as "a voter" than being told to "go vote."
I don't have any such ideas myself right at the moment -- this article just hit me and I'm still mulling it.
But I felt it might help to re-post this article in the hopes that it inspires Kossacks to think outside of the box. 2012 is turning into political guerilla warfare. We need to start being creative and make our enemy's massive resources and influence work AGAINST them.
Maybe we can call it "Guerilla Propaganda."
