This isn't a long diary, but I wanted to lay it out in a final form so that I can refer to it later. It is, obviously, a response to the absurd and vicious accusations laid out here and here.
If it is racism to have voted for an African-American candidate for President in the primary and the general, to be perfectly willing to consider his reelection, and to want him to experience success in implementing policies that are good for America, then the term has no meaning.
None of these things -- willingness to consider a person belonging to his race for the highest office in the land, hope for his success, and a desire to evaluate him based on his performance in office, rather than his membership in any category -- have anything in common with Jim Crow or discrimination as they are commonly understood. It is a sign of total intellectual bankruptcy on the part of Obama's supporters that we even have to have this conversation.
