You may remember John McCain's little problem remembering how many homes he owned (7? 8? Ask Cindy).
You probably also remember Romney joking about being unemployed - to unemployed people. Which went over like a lead soccer ball.
Well, Mitt is now combining these two forms of political fail into one epic failure. Mitt has applied to bulldoze a $12M, 3,000 square foot beach front mansion because his extended family is so large and he needs to build an 11,000 square foot home in it's place.
Romney has filed an application with the city to bulldoze his 3,009-square-foot, single-story home at 311 Dunemere Dr. and replace it with a two-story, 11,062-square-foot structure. No date has been set to consider the proposed coastal development and site development permits, which must be approved by the city.
The home was built in 1936, but is not regarded as historic.
Despite some initial concerns about the home’s historic significance, a report prepared for the project concluded that the house is not significant under any designation criteria due to a “lack of integrity.” Several alterations, the most significant being in 1986, were made over the years.
“Historic staff agreed with that conclusion,” a city planner said. “Therefore, it was not required to go to the Historic Resources Board.”
Sounds like a real fixer-upper to me.
So we know that Mitt Romney feels the pain of every American trapped in an underwater mortgage they can't afford, because that's exactly like buying a $12M house and deciding to tear it down to build one almost four times as large.
And I suppose Mitt's solution to foreclosures is for everyone to invest in short-sales against mortgage-backed CDO's, like Goldman Sachs. That way when your mortgage goes under you collect on your short position against that CDO and profit, like underwear gnomes.
Oh, BTW, Mitt was in San Diego at a bunch of fund raisers, all of which were closed to the media and anyone who can't afford to build a new home on the bulldozed ruins of the multi-million-dollar predecessor.
