This morning, I sent an email invitation to a list of liberals I generated while organizing NWroots. The invite is for a $1000/plate (and up) lunch with President Obama. So far I have had three responses. Here they are:
There is NO WAY IN HELL I want to hear that man for any amount of money. Until he starts doing things for the people I will not give him money or give him my vote. I am FED UP!!!!!!
You've got to be kidding ! Too rich for me - and hasn't the president heard - his people are hurting - they need JOBS !
And I'm subsidizing my Navy Reserve son who hasn't had a steady job in YEARS and he's been "mobilized" for Kuwait before the end of the year - though now he's just finally been hired in Las Vegas as a "dealer" on probationary status.
Anyway, my "disposable" income from my "half" social security check (and no pension) goes to helping out my children.
My daughter also just lost her teaching job - she's just applying for unemployment.
And my youngest son with a degree in Finance from U of W - waits tables.
So - last time around I gave $12 a month to Obama - and maybe I can handle that again - but no big checks from me - barking up the wrong tree.
Feel free to quote me ......
Thank you for the invitation but due to the sucky economy we can’t afford such luxuries. If we were one of the wealthy who pays next to no real taxes or were getting corporate wealth fare then, of course, we would attend. And since the President is selling us out at every turn I won’t try to scrap together the money to be thrown under the bus again.
By the way, if you'd like to go to the luncheon, it's at Seattle's Paramount Theatre, Sunday, September 25th, 11:30 AM. You can register here.
