is the line I'm adding to my hosts file once I publish this diary and post the link in Mets102's. It'll be there for at least the next week, in solidarity with the boycott called by Black Kos and SistahSpeak. As I seldom even comment here, much less diary, the impact on this site will essentially be nil, beyond the denial of clickthroughs and advertising exposure that good old NoScript wasn't already stopping. I'm doing it this way to prevent even force of habit from interfering, as it otherwise easily could.
I may keep it that way for more than the one week, depending on when or whether certain worrisome trends are reversed. Should this be my last opportunity to weigh in on the subject, let me only repeat something I've said elsewhere: if someone informs you that something you have done or said hurts another group of people as a class, and your first and last concern in response is for your own well-being and standing within whatever community, then you're a poor ally who can hardly be considered an asset to the broader movement for social justice.
(Editing the hosts file in Windows 7 requires that you act as an administrator and so forth; instructions how to do it can be found here and other places. Wikipedia has a list of hosts file locations for other operating systems.)
For those who remain, may I recommend an article in The Stranger from a couple weeks back, about how some folks in quite-progressive-and-quite-white Seattle are trying to deal with America's racial realities as constructively as they can think of. (Just the article; the comments are the same blood-boiling cesspool of ignorance one can expect most anywhere else on the Internet. Good article, though. Go read it if you haven't. Read it right now.)
