You know what they say about glass houses. You shouldn't throw stones if you live in one.
Of course that doesn't seem to apply if you are a Republican these days. However it's still hypocrisy by no other name.
Follow me ov'r if you will... But first...
Let me say thanks for the responses in Monday's thread here. I was a bit late in responding, but I do appreciate all of the thoughtful replies.
Ov'r da rainbow we go...

The one thing that is only second to the GOP's blind allegiance to narrow minded, arrogant and selfish thought is their ability to be so utterly hypocritical. Advocates of the Bible? So they say, but actual followers of it? Ummm, nope. But alas! I'm sure they would say it's all in the interpretation of it.... ugh. I think I will leave that conversation alone...
Thou shall not commit adultery. This one is popular for the GOP to break.
Thou shall not steal? This probably runs a close second.
Abide by the Golden Rule: Do undo others as you would have them do unto you.
The GOP's version? Screw the others, because they can't screw you back anyway.
It can all be such amusing entertainment for us Progressives to pick apart the GOP's 'transgressions'.
But what about our own? I looked up a few basic definitions for 'progressive':
pro•gres•sive/prəˈgresiv/
Noun: A person advocating or implementing social reform or new, liberal ideas.
--Dictionary.com
One believing in moderate political change and especially social improvement by governmental action.
--Merriam Webster.com
I rather like this one that I found from another political board:
Progressive - Someone who believes in reforming society to produce a more ideal future.
I'm sure that many of you will agree that some form of these definitions fit in with how you view yourself as a Progressive.
But let me ask you something.
How can you believe in reforming society to produce that ideal future if what you deem as 'ideal' is not so 'ideal' to others?
I would imagine that in this utopic world, everyone will be 'happy' because the reforms made will suit everyone.
Would any of those 'reforms' have anything to do with how we treat one another? Or do some Progressives think that the reforms -- in and of themselves -- will manifest positive behaviors?
I'm reminded of the movie 'Demolition Man' that came out in 1993. The basic storyline of this movie was about this cop from the past being thawed out of some cryogenics tank to catch a bad guy from the past who was wreaking havoc in the future non-violent society. This society was a utopia of societal reform -- all done in the best interest of the people.
The hook of this movie was that the 'creators' of this societal utopia were actually the ones who unfroze the bad guy because they wanted him to seek out and destroy a hidden contingent of 'non-conformers'. These folk weren't down with all that 'Happy Meal' jazz -- they wanted the right to choose. They wanted free will. Once the cop discovered the underlying plot, it was exposed to all and the non-conformists, as well as everyone else were allowed self-determination.
I guess what I'm trying to say here is that if you as a Progressive get so caught up in the ideology of socialism, you may find yourself becoming what the GOP has already become -- people who are so pure, that it's impossible to live up to the precepts they espouse.
Idealism is great and we need it for growth and expansion.
But it's not altogether very practical at times.
