See?
It can happen.
Democrats can do the right things.
No....really!
They CAN figure out we've been lied to and they can take the message to the people who need to hear it and they can deliver it.
Rep. Steve Cohen to U.S. drug czar: Pot not as dangerous as heroin
Tennessee Congressman Steven Cohen (D) urged Gil Kerlikowske, the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, to reclassify marijuana as a Schedule V substance in a letter sent Monday.
***
"Marijuana does not belong on Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) alongside such hard drugs as cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine," Cohen said. "There is no evidence that marijuana has the same addictive qualities or damaging consequences as these harder drugs and it should not be treated as such."
That wasn't too hard and he did WELL!
One of the hardcore longtern aspects of anti-marijuana propaganda is the double-edge sword of (A) comparing marijuana to heroin...as IF... and (B) the Gateway Theory which said if you start smoking pot you die in a nasty alleyway with needles in your arm.
And it's just not true.
Not remotely true.
Was never ever true.
It has always been 100% horseshit which you have supported financially with your tax dollars.
And the DEMOCRATIC Representative SAID THIS in writing to Obama's (useless) Drug Czar.
Some icing on the cake:
"I also urge you to consider the cost to law enforcement incurred by pursuing non-violent drug offenders," Cohen continued. "For example, some estimates place the total criminal justice costs of marijuana arrests for state and local governments at as much as $7.6 billion per year.
His estimates are very conservative, but still, they do the trick.
$7.6 billion being blown of a problem that doesn't exist is money that could be given to the already rich, since that is the purpose of America, anymore: enriching the rich.
So I am right...again.
Cannabis reform - PROPER cannabis reform is going to come from DEMOCRATS and when we can EVER get this done, people will say stuff like "Oh...we shoulda done this years ago" and other stupid things, but it will be clear that reform was necessary and good.
And Democrats should get the feather for their caps.
Now you can see what you represntatives KNOW or at least take a peek at the OFFICIAL information they get from the Congressional Research Service regarding marijuana.
Read Congressional Research Service Report RL33211 (warning: PDF)
It's approximately 50 pages, but if you read it, you'll be up to speed with most of what you really should know factually about the issue, free of ONDCP bullshit.
