From USA Today:
The Palestine Liberation Organization's ambassador to the United States said Tuesday that any future Palestinian state it seeks with help from the United Nations and the United States should be free of Jews.
UPDATE:
For those of you disputing the title, here is a quote:
Any Jew who is inside the borders of Palestine will have to leave?
Absolutely. I think this is a very necessary step, before we can allow the two states to somehow develop their separate national identities, and then maybe open up the doors for all kinds of cultural, social, political, economic exchanges, that freedom of movement of both citizens of Israelis and Palestinians from one area to another. You know you have to think of the day after.
Please explain how that makes it "propagandistic" to say "judenrein," which means free of Jews. That's exactly what he's after. You can be for or against the Palestinian cause. You can say this guy doesn't speak for all Palestinians (does he?) you can say global warming isn't caused by humans. But, this guy does, in fact, say that Palestine must be free of Jews.
I usually stay well wide of this issue, because I think it gets caught up in a sort of Hatfield/McCoy thing with too so much kabuki, red herrings, hidden political agenda, messianism, racism, and militarism.
But can anyone give me a lefty justification for this? Israel was attacked (rightly so) when the far right parties there suggested a loyalty oath for its Arab citizens.
This is the Palestinian state everyone wants, I guess. I just hope people don't have any illusions. Palestine will be a poor, repressive, corrupt state with no economic base other than paradoxically tourism. The converse of this is if you're a liberal supporter of Israel and you think a Palestinian state is going to stop criticism of Israel, somehow how I doubt that. All of Palestine's intrinsic weaknesses will be blamed on Israel.
