Sonnet 73
That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin'd choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou seest the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west,
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death's second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see'st the glowing of such fire
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the death-bed whereon it must expire
Consumed with that which it was nourish'd by.
This thou perceivest, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.
Ok, so it's not quite "bare ruin'd choirs" time yet, but every day, the sun slips a little lower on the horizon, softening the light, casting a more golden glow. And if one has the opportunity to use a sonnet from Shakespeare, any excuse will do. The calendar might still say it's summer, but the bite in the air—and in the house in the morning—tells you that summer is taking it's last gasps.
Which means one thing: it's Netroots Nation Auction time! (It also means one other thing: the crafters, knitters, bakers, potters, photographers and creative types of all stripes need to be getting to work on those projects for the upcoming Holiday Bazaar, so get cracking.
In the meantime, however, the stuff available for this auction is outstanding. I'm particularly drawn to the art on offer, particularly the gift certificate for $350 for a portrait drawing. Or your own commissioned oil painting. Gorgeous stuff here!
They call them unique experiences, but they're beyond unique. Lunch with Howard Dean or Cheryl Contee or Mike Lux. You could bid on all three and have one of the most interesting meals of your life. Which means, of course, that you're coming to Providence next year. And if you're coming to Providence, well, just one word (or is it two?).
So celebrate this change of season by looking forward and head on over to the auction. What better preparation for next June in Providence?
5:51 PM PT: Oh, by the way, you only have until Tuesday, Sept. 20. So get your butts over there and bid.
