More than a year ago I realized I was talking shit, about how public transportation was wonderful. About this or that. How I didn't need a car. I realized I still got in my car a lot. I told myself I wasn't going to drive my car for awhile and see what that was like. I am now around a year, I had planned to do it for three months.

Let me start by saying I have an expensive German, four door sedan in my driveway. It is fun to drive. I love to drive it. I have not done so in over a year.

There is this phrase I often use. Mental gymnastics. I don't know where I heard the phrase or concept, but I often bend my mind, test it, just to see the result.

I've also heard about the 30 day principal. Do something everyday for 30 days, well it becomes habit.

It was hard at first. I was cooking dinner and forgot something. I could get to the store and back in my car in seconds. Well longer on my bike. If I wanted to go someplace else, well I had to look at the bus schedule.

My family knows I am a little "off" and/or "strange" and that didn't change when I showed up for family events at their house on a bus.

Now I could write like 20 Diaries bitching about how the system could be improved. But alas, I don't feel like bitching. At least by me, in a rural area the public trans system is kind of nice.

Heck the biggest problem I have, and I have a few cats, is figuring out how to get a 25 pound bag of litter home on my mountain bike :).

I say all this cause I just had my car towed. Seems if you don't drive it for a year, well that isn't good for it. Getting worked on.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
