Ron Paul recently pointed out that building walls along borders could result in keeping us in as well as keeping illegal immigrants out. Of course, he was scoffed at by those who still parrot the old party line about America being the greatest country on earth, where everyone would live if they only could.
However, more and more people are waking up to the fact that "home ownership" really means mortgage slavery, and that "social security" is an illusion. The desire for guarantees and to get something for nothing is really the root of what ails this country.
401K pension plans, where employers match dollar savings of employees, are little more than a promise of something for nothing. Meanwhile, these pension funds are invested in banking, insurance, oil, and arms manufacturing corporations, giving them the resources and power to buy government. Americans don't care what their money is invested in, so long as there is a guaranteed return on their investment, and the only way to guarantee a return is to pass legislation forcing people to buy "products", or installing foreign dictatorships that allow their own countries' resources to be pillaged and their workers exploited by American and multi-national corporations.
The insurance industry has taken health care hostage, the greedy for-profit industry making the very term "health care" an oxymoron. People may scoff at Ron Paul's suggestion that anyone would ever want to flee from America, but considering that our government spends more of our tax dollars in a single day on securing oil in the middle east by force in order to preserve the current power structure than it does in a year on providing health care for the veterans who are stop-lossed into performing this heinous duty, I for one am ashamed to be called an American. In fact, unless Ron Paul is elected, and the banking, oil, and insurance companies who currently own America are neutralized, my goal is to emigrate. Granted, the civil liberties enjoyed by those who can afford them in this country are equal to none. But when the parasite has grown larger than the host, the host must either free itself or perish.
My advice to all who would like to save what is good about this country is to withdraw all your retirement benefits now--before they are stolen from you anyway. Remove your investments from anything that is unsustainable, that relies on exploitation and corruption to guarantee a profit. Take responsibility for what your money is doing, and stop turning a blind eye. Otherwise, more and more of your guaranteed profits will have to be spent on personal and homeland security to protect you from the rabble from whence your profits came. The Nigerian villagers with polluted water, grieving Pakistani relatives of those killed by unmanned drones, of which they are building thousands--and one day they will be watching YOU.
