Here at Top Comments we strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd and most informative commentary. We depend on your help with talent spotting. If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it to topcomments at gmail by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
You'll please forgive me if I'm a little lacking in both my attention to the political world this week and my sleep. Many of you know I volunteer at Netroots Nation, but this week I've volunteered elsewhere. Follow me below the dingledoodlesquiggliedividerthingie fold...
Many of you may be aware that in addition to a busy real life, for the last 4+ years I've had a presence in the virtual world of Second Life. I don't share my avatar name out here, but she's as much a part of me as my identity as brillig. Most of the time I'm hanging out with friends, chatting (yeah, big difference from RL me, eh? :-)). Often I'm with my politically kindred friends chatting about the latest events while listening to DJs spin great music at Cafe Wellstone (the link takes you inworld to the Cafe, if you don't have an avatar following the directions on the SL website to make one then heading in to join us is recommended).
Other nights I'm off with friends listening to live music. Yeah, there are some spectacular musicians who stream from home so that people all over the world can hear them. I've attended Real Life meetups where folks get together to make music and see pixel friends in the flesh.
This week, I'm helping run the entertainment stage at BURN2. From the BURN2 website: BURN2 is an extension of the Burning Man festival and community into the world of Second Life. It is an officially sanctioned Burning Man regional event, and the only virtual world event out of more than 100 real world Regional groups, and the only Regional to burn the Man! What's Burning Man? From their website: An annual experiment in temporary community dedicated to radical self-expression and radical self-reliance.
It's a bit smaller this year than in previous, but still an event that takes months to organize. I was asked to help run the live music stage. Over the week we'll have close to 50 musical acts performing. It's been a lot of work, and my wrists are complaining about all the typing. But I've heard several acts new to me that are now on my Must-See-Again list, I've made new friends, and for one week I'm taking a break from politics. We all need that sometimes.
I wish I had pictures that I took, but as any SLer knows, some days are laggier than others, and the BURN stages sit on sims that can be sludgelike. Pictures simply didn't happen; but there's a lovely Flickr pool to enjoy! There's also a livestream of events, limited only by the need of the cameraman to sleep! BURN on! :)

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
From Mnemosyne:
Who sez you don't learn anything from funny diaries? Herein, as started by Horsefeathers, pooties take on monsters and isoceles triangles, and some other stuff.
From TheOrchid:
Chimpy's reply to my comment in TheTroubadour's diary Why Did NYT Financial Columnist Finally Write About #OccupyWallStreet? was both laugh-out-loud funny, and dead-on accurate.
From lineatus:
We wanted to get help to a Kossack in need, and Eileen B put it into place. I fucking love this place.
From yuriwho:
Perfect concise summary from kevvboy.
From Seneca Doane:
In Bon MoT's diary, Eileen B shared with us a snotty interview at Zuccotti Park by CNN's Erin Burnett (who is engaged to a Citigroup executive named "Rubulotta.") haremoor sends the future Mrs. Citibank-Rubulotta a heartfelt and wonderful open letter.
From Yours Truly, brillig:
So the unemployed are supposed to go get a job at Burger King? onemadson's diary does some math, and G2Geek calculates in comments that it's easier to get into Yale.
