At the conclusion of the Take Back the American Dream Conference in Washington, DC this week, progressive groups rallied at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday October 5, 2011 to demand that Congress focus on creating jobs rather than cutting spending.
These are some new co-op photos from the rally:
The crowd at the rally. I didn't try to count, but it's easily several hundred:
(More below the fold...)
Rep. Keith Ellison (D, MN-05):
A homemade sign at the rally that I liked:
Rep. Raul Grijalva (D, AZ-07):
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D, TX-18) and Van Jones:
Mahlon Mitchell, a firefighter and union leader from Madison Wisconsin (who gave a particularly passionate speech):
There was a pretty solid press turnout for this event, although I heard some grumbling about the late start and problems with the public address audio, which was weak and constantly cutting out.
The rally also included quite a few speakers telling personal stories of how the economy and lack of jobs has affected them.
