This movement has grown by leaps and bounds across the Country, in large and small communities and the messages extended into those voiced by others around the World as we watched last weekend. Reminds me of another time but built on another issue with some of the same present day issues intertwined.
I don't know how long those in the actual Occupy camps can stay, much depends on a lot of circumstances two being weather in some parts of the country as well as the political leadership combined with law enforcement forces.
I've had a thought even before this all started that's popped up since, it just did abit ago again.
We need another strong Community Organization doing many needs in many communities across this Country, and you have the ready folks who can start this and fill positions right now.
The thought hit again watching the Reverend Billy's newly posted video linked in his diary on the list.
This is a movement made up mostly of the young as to the World we older adults have left them and it's becoming clearer in these recent times, from just existing to the politics.
It hit me the other day watching this video as well, the songs of this movement, the one above and this one and I'm sure some others are being sung in these occupy camps or at least being inspired by.
We need all need to fill the huge emptiness left by the collapse of ACORN, through extremist propaganda and way over the extreme slander and lies. Others have been taken down and still others are now in constant attack by the extremist, including politicians on our payrolls right up to all the hard fought for workers rights.
We need a Community Organization, with goals covering that which groups like ACORN once did, working in communities around the country.
It could be called "We Are the 99%", stolen from the reverend billy's song/video title but used by all the Occupying groups and those who support.
Doing Voter Registrations!
Doing Volunteer Work!
Helping those in the Communities that are in dire need of!
There are a number of needs and I'm sure by now within these groups those who have the heart and ability are being recognized by others. They could fill the needed leadership rolls, much like any other movement has, organizing those willing to work or volunteer, listening to the communities and trying to act on what they are hearing.
Hell, just reading the writings about as well as the posters seen and being shared, everyone knows the needs!!
The Occupy camps should stay for as long as they can with those willing to fill them and work within on getting others in the community organized for the needed marches or other actions that these groups decide on doing to keep the messages alive.
If funding can continue, as in a non profit setup for the Community Organization then some of those now taking part and are unemployed, especially with degree's, can fill paid positions while others who are able can work as the many volunteers needed. If it grows more paid positions can be established.
Community Organizations, not controlled by outsiders, are built from the bottom up as this movement has been. The older activist now taking part or in support of I'm sure would be more then willing to lend a hand as they know the needs and what was lost in the dissolving of the organizations that once worked to fill those needs.
We have a relatively young President who worked as, and was mocked for doing so, a Community Organizer, his wife, Michele, as well as the Vice Presidents, Jill, have been very active on a number of issues but especially related to Military Families. I'm sure if Barack had never gone into politics he would have made a name for himself as others have within the communities, and after he leaves office I'm sure he'll be one of the few that continue working in these area's but in the global community.
The spirit is there Right Now as well as the Energy, it needs to be harnessed as offshoots of what is today for tomorrow and the coming tomorrows! The technology is way beyond what we had only a few decades back and it's being used correctly now!
Just a Thought!!
