Just a quick diary to highlight the latest in a thought-provoking trend: This article in Salon, asking the question: Is Elizabeth Warren the first true #OWS candidate?
Elizabeth Warren and the OWS election test
What I find most interesting about the Elizabeth Warren/OWS nexus is the fact that OWS doesn't (at least at this point) WANT any candidate or spokesperson speaking for it. It does a fine job of that itself, thank you very much.
But -- and this is huge -- Elizabeth Warren is pretty much the ONLY candidate on the national scene today who CAN align herself with the movement without anyone raising an objection (okay, MAYBE Alan Grayson). She stands for EVERYTHING the OWS movement stands for. In fact, when she uttered the famous and perhaps ill-conceived words "I created much of the intellectual foundation for what they do," it wasn't meaningless self-aggrandizement. She's been fighting this fight since before OWS was a gleam in pappy's eye!
In other words: #OWS might be the FIRST political movement (?) group (?) lobbyist (ha!) in history who gets a professional Congressional candidate just by "not minding" that s/he is there.
Talk about getting your cake and eating it, too: We field a viable candidate for the Senate who represents us as constituents WITHOUT SPENDING A DIME!
