Many are still waiting to hear if the White House is going to approve the Tar Sands Pipeline and if you are like me, you want this like you want another hole in your head.
Right now thousands have surrounded the White House to show opposition to this horrendous plan to bring dirty oil from Canada to refineries in Texas. This will not be safe nor help ween us from our dependence on Foreign Oil.
Below is the live stream of the protest.
And here is something you can do:
Thousands have encircled the White House to convince President Obama to reject the Keystone XL pipeline. Now you can join this amazing action organized by friends of Geenpeace!
Here's what to do:
1) Go to the White House FB page. http://www.facebook.com/...
2) Post this LINK: http://www.facebook.com/...
3) Add your comment about the Keystone XL pipeline
And Obama knows that if this goes through there will be real consequences. Green groups warn Obama he'll pay price for approving pipeline
“This is not just about what LCV, which spent nearly $1 million to help elect Obama in 2008, or any other group that engages in electoral politics do in the upcoming election,” Sittenfeld, the group’s senior vice president for government affairs, said Friday.
“It’s about people out there who care deeply about the environment, how much they volunteer, how many doors they knock on, how much money they contribute directly,” Sittenfeld added. “We have LCV supporters who maxed out to the Obama campaign in 2008 who have told us they are not going to give this time around if the president approves this pipeline.”
...
While environmental groups and voters that prioritize the issue won’t back Obama’s GOP opponent, Brune said that approval of the pipeline would have a “big impact” on his group’s allocation of campaign resources between congressional races and the White House contest.
Environmentalists also argue that rejection of the project would help Obama politically.
“If President Obama denies the permit to build this pipeline, it will unleash a wave of enthusiasm from people and organizations across the country who feel so passionate about this issue,” Sittenfeld said.
So no, no one is saying they will support whatever flavor of the month republican candidate makes it through the primary. They are saying that environmentalists are tired of their issues, that really are everyone's issues, of being pushed aside because it's convenient.
The pipeline is just another example of this. And the people who would pay the highest price and who usually do pay the highest price for cheaper, dirty energy are the 99%, this is an issue of economic and social justice as much as it is an issue of environmental issues.
Be a witness to what people are doing and what they were doing prior to Occupy WallStreet by demonstrating in front of the White House to stop the Tar Sands Pipeline. This is just another example of how the Mainstream media is refusing to cover yet another protest.
