Many of us, for various reasons, can't make it to an OWS site to pitch camp. I am, unfortunately, one who can't make it to an occupy site. However I can support the movement and support Moving Your Money in my own small way.
I was so inspired by one diary http://www.dailykos.com/... that I went out to my local Bank Of America.
On Monday I stood in line at BOFA to Move My Money - which I did- to a local credit Union.
As I exited I saw an elderly man waiting in line at the ATM. I asked him how his day was going and we struck up a pleasant conversation.
The conversation turned to banking and I mentioned that I took my money out of Bank Of America, since BOFA is planning new and more creative ways to add fees to drain our accounts. He agreed and I suggested to him that he should move his money to the local credit union. I gave him the name, address and phone number and told him that a real live person will actually pick up the phone and answer all his questions.
I was expecting him to just take the information and maybe check it out later. To my surprise, he dials the number on his cell and, after a ten minute question and answer, hangs up, thanks me and walks in to close his four accounts.
It's a small step for me, but one I intend on repeating as often as possible.
Now, imagine if every reader on this site did this once a week...
