As I was driving into work this morning I noticed one of those new electronic billboards was displaying a message from US Bank. I usually try to ignore billboards, especially in rush hour, but US Bank, which used to be Firstar, used to be First Wisconsin. The bank where I opened my first savings account as a seven year old. Then they were bought out, consolidated, merged, and I moved to the UW Credit Union.
but the nostalgia made me read the following:
"Move your money to US(in their logo)"
But to be clear, banks don't want your deposits and aren't concerned about the loss of individual accounts.
Right?
A couple of conclusions:
The move your money movement is popular enough that US Bank's Advertising agency has hitched a message to it, hoping that people will see the message and not the speaker. That's good news.
The move your money movement is successful enough that it's being targeted as a demographic in broad spectrum advertising. That's good news.
The move your money movement is successful enough that US Bank has decided that it needs to work to get new accounts coming in. Maybe a lack of depositers is a bad thing after all? And that's good news.
All told, I'd like to thank US Bank for brightening my day in a way that they haven't since I was seven, and my mom took me to get my first deposit book.
