In a clear sign of Republican worries about the impact of OWS and the growing realization by many of the tremendous economic inequality in this nation, Republican candiate Newt Gingrich called on President Obama to renounce any discussion of economic inequality and all attempts to make the rich pay their fair share of taxes:
I repudiate, and I call on the President to repudiate, the concept of the 99 and the 1. It is un-American, it is divisive, it is historically false…You are not going to get job creation when you engage in class warfare because you have to attack the very people you hope will create jobs.
Think Progress
What's Un-American is the way in which the Republican Party has driven the tremendous inequality the last 30 years. What's Un-American is the inequality, not talking about it.
Newt is not bothered by the existance of gross economic inequality in this nation. He's just fine with the rich getting rich and the rest getting screwed. But he doesn't want any of us to talk about it.
This shows me that the Republicans are worried. Newt is living in the 1990s. The world has changed and the 99% are wising up and rising up.
I'll update if there is any response by the Obama campaign or adminstration.
