I'm just playing devil's advocate on this one folks. Follow me below the flip to see both arguments pro and there are some significant cons for buying annual subscriptions.
I'm not advocating either way, I just want to hear what others think.
There are several good reasons WHY to get a get an annual subscription:
1. An immediate infusion of $100.00 for Dailykos before the end of the calendar year. Assuming Kos has the Kos Media, LLC setup on a calendar year(vs. some funky fiscal year); then this would give him additional capital for 2012.
2. As Kos has mentioned, he can use this capital for creating new verticals and other progressive items.
3. You can skip seeing ads all the time.
Cons for buying an annual subscription
Annual vs. Lifetime subscriptions
1. Kos will never get additional revenue from the faithful. Let’s admit it, probably only the ardent users of DK will buy(or give) an annual subscription.
2. If each of us subscribed for $40.00 per year, that would be a fairly consistent flow of income.
3. After 2.5 years Kos is missing out on additional revenue from each of us.
Subscription vs. No Subscription at All
1. Kos has the site setup for PPC(Pay Per Click) and CPM (Cost Per Thousand rotations for an ad). We often see website wraps and you can bet he charges a pretty penny for a wrap or other specialty items.
2. This means that every time we click an ad or refresh a website Kos Media earns X amount of revenue
3. Myself I know I refresh the homepage(or go into diaries) to the tune of 50-100 times a day. Yes, I’m an addict.
4. Kos Media would be earning new revenue each day, week, month, year for the long term.
What do the negative reasons mean, Kos Media could/would lose out on long term revenue for the sake of a short term injection of funds.
The question comes down to, is a short term cash injection better vs. longer term revenue that is semi constant?
I am leaning more towards an annual subscription, just because I love the site and want to ensure Kos has the additional capital over the long term.
